In collaboration with partners across North-West Europe, the WISTAR project aims to develop sustainable inland waterway transport from and to rural areas in Wallonia, the Ruhr area, and Normandy. It focuses on energy-efficient e-ships, simplified transshipment points, and digital platforms to enhance supply chain efficiency and reduce CO₂ emissions.
The PROMETNAV project enhances the visibility and appeal of inland navigation careers to address crew shortages in Europe. It aims to attract young students and career changers through tailored video production, social media campaigns, and by showcasing advancements in the sector. This project is conducted as part of the SWITCH team setup by the Walloon government.

The H2020 project supported the EU’s objective to increase inland waterway transport through digitalisation, infrastructure improvements, and innovative vessels. For Port of Brussels, we conducted a logistics engineering study on multimodal scenarios for urban freight, an operational demonstration in Brussels, and an analysis of perspectives for automated navigation and platooning.

In the Interreg NWE project Smart Track 4 Waterway, we performed studies and organised pilots for the innovation cluster Logistics in Wallonia. The project successfully developed and tested solutions to digitally and physically interconnect inland waterway transport with last-mile logistics. One of the focuses was on the deliveries of palletised construction materials towards urban areas.

Seminar fostering business relations in inland waterways transport, raising awareness of the benefits and opportunities. Pitches and a co-creation workshop brought together SMEs, start-ups, large companies, clusters, research centres, investment firms, pilots, operators, city distributors and authorities to exchange insights, share successes, challenges, and trends, and strengthen collaboration across the value chain.
